Little Stream is a particularly sensitive landscape on which development was opposed by the Wakatipu Environmental Society. With the court having declined other rural subdivision applications in the area due to the sensitivity of the landscape, the challenge was to adhere to the district plans and achieve some form of compromise with the client so they achieved their goals, as well as preserving the landscape, by ensuring the design was sensitive.
Outcome
vivian+espie made a series of minor but critically important changes to the plans to obtain the best result for the client which also meant it would be approved by the court.
Due to the particular sensitivity of this rural landscape vivian+espie needed to ensure that evidence required by the court is consistent right to the final sentence and adhered to the district plan. Working side by side meant vivian+espie succeeded where others had failed.
