vivian+espie combine resource management and landscape architecture to offer their clients a comprehensive approach to environmental planning.

Specialising in rural development issues, vivian+espie have extensive experience in environment court proceedings, and regional and district planning, ensuring sustainable and credible advice for planning projects.

They are known for their honest and frank advice.

“Our business relies on our reputation for providing good advice to our clients and maintaining our credibility with the court.”

Knowing The Rules

With a combined total of 16 years working with the Wakatipu district planning office, vivian+espie have an unrivalled and renowned knowledge of the area and the issues typical to this landscape.

Importantly, Carey and Ben know intimately the planning rules and in many cases wrote them during their time working for the Queenstown Lakes District Council and Civic Corporation Limited respectively.

“Other consultants can spend a lot of time getting to grips with the issues in a case. We know all of the issues intimately, and can predict which ones will arise.”

Experience Before the Court

Rural development is known for being more controversial than other resource applications and there is usually more difficulty in obtaining resource consents. A large amount of these have to be assessed in court.

Carey and Ben have the respect of the environment court through their vast experience in making applications and being credible witnesses, they are trusted in the courtroom by both clients and peers.

Recommendations given by vivian+espie are considered balanced and their impartial nature in assessing landscapes is a valuable quality in a somewhat controversial field.

“Both Ben and Carey’s experience in environment court has earned them the respect of the judges and a reputation as credible witnesses. It is this that usually carries the case.”
