Double Cone, High Density Development

The Challenge

To advise on the design of the built form and layout of the Douglas Street apartments, a comprehensive residential development which needed approval by the council to proceed. The challenge was made greater by neighbourhood objections and sensitivity issues to the building of the complex.

Outcome

In a fairly unusual move, vivian+espie employed an expert in the field of noise and vibration to assess and monitor the site on an ongoing basis ensuring noise and vibration was within the required level. Using this evidence as well as information coordinated from other experts, they reported to the council and gained resource consent approval for the development.

With the council satisfied that neighbours weren’t affected by the sensitivity issues, the development is being built as per the plans and advice given by vivian+espie.

“It’s about managing the process, and predicting what the council is going to say, that’s what vivian+espie do. They know what it takes to get a development approved.”
